Self-Serve Program
You Want the Tools to Work Through It Yourself.
You know you want something to change.
Maybe your magazine isn't producing the income you expected. Sales aren't where they need to be. You're struggling to grow. Or the business is doing well, but you're trying to figure out what comes next.
The Self-Serve Program helps you take a deeper look at yourself, your magazine, and your customers so you can better understand what's standing between where you are and where you want to be.
More Than Sales Training.
Building a better publishing business isn't simply about learning another sales technique.
You need to understand why advertisers buy, what makes your magazine valuable to them, how to navigate objections and buying decisions, and what may be preventing you from consistently doing the things you already know you should be doing.
The Self-Serve Program brings those pieces together.
You'll work through practical training designed specifically around the realities of magazine publishing, with tools you can apply directly to your own business.
Work Through It at Your Own Pace
The program includes training, practical tools, stories, scripts, and printable resources you can use in real sales situations.
There's no schedule you have to follow and no cohort you have to keep up with.
Work through the material at your own pace and apply it to the challenges you're facing in your publishing business.

You Don't Have to Do It Completely Alone.
Self-Serve doesn't mean you're on your own.
Your program includes access to the Weekly Live Q&A with John, where you can ask questions about the material, your sales situations, or challenges you're encountering as you put what you're learning into practice.
You get the flexibility of working independently with a place to get help when you need it.

MISSION: "We teach what actually works—no fluff, no jargon, just real-world strategies that get results."
John Preston is not just a sales coach; he’s a mentor to entrepreneurs, helping them bridge the gap between great ideas and sustainable business growth. In his 22 years in TV news, John mastered the art of making complex ideas easy to understand. Since his television days, he’s grown to realize how much that skill is needed in the world of business. During that time, he launched a series of hyper-local magazines in the Central Kentucky area, including the state’s first-ever monthly all-discipline horse magazine, Equine Living in the Bluegrass. In addition, he became a Hall of Fame Sales Coach and Business Mentor for helping others launch dozens of additional magazines nationwide. Along the way, he realized that most businesses fail not because they don’t have a good product, but because their owners lack the acumen to run their businesses effectively. He also saw firsthand that salespeople struggle because they don’t get the training they need to thrive. What training is available is usually expensive and most often gimmicky, allowing them a few quick sales without making them better at their job. The JP Business Academy was created to help sales folks and entrepreneurs get where they dream of being. John’s goal is to create a variety of tools to help "regular folk become rockstar business owners and sales pros."
